Nights of Lights Festival

Each year, as the fall season begins to wind down around the middle of November, locals and visitors to St Augustine begin preparing for the spectacular display of lights that are exhibited throughout the city during the holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and St Augustine Christmas. The St Augustine Nights of Lights festival takes place from November 18th to January 31st and, in addition to the dazzling displays of hundreds of thousands of lights that outline the historic Old City, tons of great events happen during this time and numerous vacationers come to the Old City for an unforgettable St Augustine Christmas. This year the event is scheduled to begin on November 18th, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. in the city's historic Plaza de la Constitucion. Live performances and a lighting ceremony are planned for 6:30 p.m. Do not miss your opportunity to see the Old City bright with dazzling color; just one single switch controls the more than 2 million lights!

During the St Augustine Christmas Nights of Lights Festival season, tons of great events take place in the historic part of the Old City. As you ride on a trolley that tours the old streets of the village a storyteller dressed in period garb will tell you of the holiday traditions that were celebrated in years past. The walking part of the tour is lighted with lanterns making for a particularly beautiful atmosphere.
